Heading back from Asahikawa with MHM after a couple of good sessions skiing and riding at Kamui, we decided to check out the pass on Saturday the 4th of January. Tried out the new touring bindings and climbing skins (first time for me to skin up a mountain, snowshoes just weren’t cutting it!) and all I gotta say is until I get a splitboard, I ain’t ever going BC snowboarding again… maybe… Light, fast, no sinking in, no getting clipped by overhanging trees, no stress. So much easier to climb mountains on skis!
First hike was 55 minutes to the tree just below the top bowl. Still a lot of sasa grass sticking through, but even though it wasn’t totally covered over, the POW was pretty nice. Second hike took only 25 minutes to almost the same spot. Got some nice skiing in there too. Needs more snow though!
